It’s like seeing old friends again… ooooh those mini shells make my heart pitter patter. Sanibel Lighthouse Beach had a sweet little wrack line filled with BUBBLE SHELLS, WENTLETRAPS, juvie CONCHS and all sort of fun stuff at low tide this week. Actually, every beach I went to had such a different variety. Island Inn‘s beach was filled with all sorts of different shells but the butterfly COQUINAS and KITTENS PAWS struck my fancy in the surf line.
I also went to Blind Pass to see the shells piling up at the water’s edge.
I found more than just minis under the Blind Pass bridge at the really low tide … score!
I met a sheller just under the bridge who found a huge ALPHABET CONE… congrats!
On the Captiva side of Blind Pass the shells started piling up there too… mostly KITTENS PAWS but who doesn’t love KITTENS PAWS?
I love to visit different beaches throughout one week of nice low tides because… ya never know whatcha gonna find. I even went kayaking out to the mud flats on the back side of Captiva with some girlfriends to see what we could find… ROSE PETAL TELLINS!
It was an amazing week going from sloshing around on the tidal mud flats finding LIGHTNING WHELKS, PEAR WHELKS, TULIPS and ROSE PETAL TELLINS to leisurely walking the beaches of Captiva and Sanibel around Blind Pass and around the tip of Lighthouse beach finding beautiful treasures and my fave finds of the teeny tiny WENTLTETRAPS.
Such a good week of shelling…. Oh and omigosh, the WHITE PELICANS. The beauty of the the WHITE PELICANS.

Is it my imagination or do the fall shells seem more colorful?
I saw you and Clark on West Gulf Beach earlier this week but you were busy with whom appeared to be a reporter and photographer. Perhaps another article on Sanibel shelling?
We met last year when I purchased one of your gorgeous “shellographs.” The whelk!
I did catch Clark off to the side while you were being photographed and told him his cigar smoke was evoking wonderful memories of my dad. Made my day. Something special always happens on the beach!
Awwww Clark thought that was sweet you remembered your dad because of him :) hope you’re enjoying that shell! That’s my fave one.
Pam, we love your blog! We spent many vacations at Ft. Myers Beach, visiting Sanibel each year for a special shelling adventure. Last year and this winter we’ll be staying in Englewood but would love to take one of your I love shelling cruises perhaps in March, if possible. Will you have one going then?
I absolutely love the mini’s. One of my dreams is to find a couple wentletraps when I get to come back!
My my 7 year-old son is obsessed with sea shells and shelling. He has just recently discovered your videos and is enthralled! I walked i to hear him shouting at the iPad “Oh! Oh! That one’ beautiful! Why didn’t she pick it up?”, and ” Yesssss!! She saw that one! What kind is that?!” :-D
Unfortunately we don’t live near the seaside (we live in Pretoria, South Africa), but your videos, plus his shell collection seem to be giving him so much joy!! Thank-you!
Awesome finds Pam…as always!! Thank you for bringing the beauty of shells and the beach to those of us up north…really makes my day! And yes, the White Pelicans are so beautiful!!!
We are headed down the day after Thanksgiving. Would love it if I met you! Hopefully we’ll bump into you. Before that we are staying in St. Petersburg with family.
Love all the teeny tiny shells. :)
Where is a good place to look for Kings crown shells? I got one about 3 yrs ago on west gulf dr by blue dolphin cottages.
We’re coming down again on nov 30th. Have any cruises planned for the weekend of 12/1-12/5?
Happy thanksgiving to you and Clark!
Barbara from LI NY
Oh… I meant to let you know, Pam, that Ed and I will be on-island from late on Thursday December 8th, to early on Thursday Dec 22nd, pretty much the same as usual. :)
I hope there are some good micros and other teeny-tiny shells waiting for me!
