A juvenile QUEEN CONCH is a very rare find on Sanibel…. and “our ” Tammy found one!!! If you’ve ever read the comments on any of my posts, her name is “Tam Tam From Michigan” and I finally got to meet her (in real life person!) this weekend on Sanibel and this was the first thing she showed me.
A juvenile QUEEN CONCH! You can find them in the Bahamas and The Florida Keys but it’s not often I hear of anybody finding one  here. I’m so happy for her!
Like Donnie, she might be a little shell crazy too. She looooves shells so much, she even named her daughter Shell. This is Shell sittin ‘n siftin on a big pile off West Gulf Drive near Shalimar. Or maybe I should say… this is Shell shelling….
She told me that “Tammy” means “Palm Tree” in another language then showed me her new tattoo…
So of course since her daughter’s name is Shell and her name means Palm Tree…so she looves Sanibel and so do her girlfriends! They all love shelling Sanibel. This is Claudette (FL), Shell, Barb (VA),Tam Tam, Karen, Tracy (FL). You’ve met Claudette and Karen here before CLICK HERE and Karen happens to be Tam Tam’s cousin. The world is getting smaller, isn’t it? How cute are they with their i Love Shelling tee!!!
And the shelling sistahs can phoon too…. LOL…
Here are some of the other fabulous treasures Tam Tam found…
And even more…
Check this out… it’s an imprint (fossil, it apprears) of seashells formed in some sort of rock (Clark thinks it is limestone).
The cousins were having great luck! Karen found this GOLDEN OLIVE…
She and Claudette were finding lots of BITTERSWEETS on the beach too. I have found a few lately and I always feel like I’ve found quite a treasure when I see them. They are just so colorful!
Congrats again Tam Tam! Your QUEEN CONCH is quite the catch and I feel so lucky too to finally get to meet you and Shell. Oh and I want to share a poem again that Tammy (Tam Tam) wrote. I posted My Sweet Sanibel on May 12, 2010. CLICK HEREÂ to enjoy!
What a beautiful juvenile queen conch shell! You are so lucky to be there! Wish I was there! Wish I lived over there! LOL!
Great shells Tam Tam and Shell. I wish I was there I miss it so much.
Anyone on Sanibel want to do a “time share” for a week in lovely NY this time of year?? The city is beautiful at Christmas time.
Beautiful shell…you never know what might turn up here. Very lucky find.
Congrats on the other shells too…Awesome Golden Olive.

Beautiful shells Tam Tam, especially the queen conch…..looks like the shelling has been awesome this week on Sanibel. Congrats!!!
I have shell envy double time now LOL. AMAZING finds these last coupe of days. Congrats Tam Tam and Donnie!!! That queen conch and the junonia are amazing specimens. I even love the fossil rock and the vertebra Donnie found. Keep ’em coming!!
I’ve never even seen a queen conch or the bittersweets so this was a real treat. LOVE the phooning photo!!! Pam, you crack me up!

Those are my kind of girls! Looks like fun!
Yes you’re right Anna! Yall would have a great time together!
It was so much fun. Tam Tam has wanted me to shell with her for a long time. I surprised her on the beach…so much fun!
Karen “moshiemom” from Mi…Tam Tam’s cousin.
What an Unbelievable Vacation….I couldn’t believe it when I turned around and my cousin, Karen, was there….I was in such shock, it took a moment for my brain to register…Karen…Sanibel…Beach…Here…What a Fabulous surprise!!!! Been shelling for well over 15 years…and wanted her to always go!!! Thanks Karen and Claudette and the rest of you for pulling that off! I’ll never forget! :)
Lets see getting ready for Christmas or plopping myself in the middle of a big shell pile at GSCP…..hmmmmm
These are just absolutely beautiful finds. Sanibel Island keeps calling to me in my dreams. Oh, how I want to return, soon.
My Italian born friend, Palma, also know as PAM said her name means palm as in palm tree…too funny!
Very Cool!!! One day another friend of mine gave me a printed piece on “Palmtree in Hebrew means Tamara”…and although my name is Tammy…I’ll still take it!!! Been drawing a little palmtree every since I was 14 and took my first trip to Florida and one! So finally got brave enough to get the tattoo done too!
I love her palm tree tattoo on her foot!
Pam and Clark are so much fun! We had a great time visiting with them and sharing our finds. Sure wish I was still there. Rainy, nasty day back in MI.
I’m still enjoying all of the updates and pictures on your blog and since a beach vacation will not be in our plans for a while, I’m at least able to experience it through you. :)
In the 9th picture (the one with all of Tam Tams finds on the towel), there is a shell (shiny and whitish/yellow) in the lower right quarter of your picture that is just to the left of the cone and just below the baby horse conch that looks like it could be a white sunrise tellin, but I’m not positive. Could it be? I have three whole white sunrise tellins and a few of the regular colored ones (all broken – still too pretty not to take), from a trip to the Bahamas.
