Gabriel found this live STARFISH (BROWN SPINY SEA STAR) on a PEN SHELL at low tide late this morning at the Sanibel Lighthouse beach. His whole family came over to look at it and to ohhh and ahhh so I had to find out what the fuss was about. It’s just beautiful, isn’t it? Yes, I mean the STARFISH is beautiful but also to hear the excitement and amazement of finding life and treasures that come from the sea. That’s beautiful too.

It was such a pleasure to meet this family! They were trying to learn the names of all the shells they were finding so I was thrilled to help them. This was our best find…. an ALPHABET CONE that was semi buried in the sand.

Oh how I’ve missed my walks at the lighthouse beach on Sanibel. Ever since the day light savings time change, I’ve been discombobulated. I like my walks with Clark in the evening but now it gets dark too early for me to wait until he gets home from his office. But now after meeting such an amazing family on the beach today, it got me right in my beach combing time zone again. Here are a couple of my finds….
Most of my finds today were half buried in the sand like this half buried perfect ANGEL WING.
This LIGHTNING WHELK was perfectly empty too but I almost missed it since only this much of it was showing. More buried treasure.

I never have any luck at the Lighthouse. We did OK at Gulfside at noon today, went a little diggin’.

I’ve only shelled at Lighthouse beach once…will have to make a point of going again next time we’re down. Thanks, as always, for sharing your finds — I needed it today as we got our first blast of winter here in MN. :(

You may not realize it but you’ve already won “the lottery”! Money will pass away but the joy and memories that you create for others, and yourself, by what you do is priceless for a lifetime. The highlight of our short vacation was shelling on Sanibel, where Peggy and I honeymooned some 23 years ago. Creating family memories with the peaceful sounds of the wind and the waves comes back to mind so vividly when I see the photos. You have a gift of teaching as well as shelling. Our family loves nature and learning, and when you came out of nowhere to guide and teach us for an hour we just couldn’t get enough. I hope you didn’t mind us following you down the beach a bit.

It was really MY pleasure to meet your family. It was so much fun for me to see your whole family taking every inch of that beach as a learning experience and enjoying every minute. As for the lottery… yes, I do realized how lucky we are so that’s why I try to share a little of it here AND it’s so funny because I felt the same way about your family, I came home to tell Clark that I felt like your kids were some of the luckiest kids on earth to have parents so engaged in thier learning and teaching them about real life and experiences. I’m not a parent (to 2 legged children only 2 four legged children LOL ) but after meeting yall, I witnesses Home Schooling at its BEST! Thanks for commenting!
