This is classic “Sanibel Stoop”.
Don’t you just love to see curious kids?
Finding the wonders of the sea.
Jill and Courtney (MN) thought Madison was crazy for picking up this …er… “thing”.
Do you know what it is? A bone? A shell? A tooth? Whatever it is, I think it’s an interesting find, Madison.
Jill found this live TRUE TULIP….
Then walked it out to the deeper water.
Jane and Madeline still stooping…..
to find this LIGHTNING WHELK.
Such beautiful pictures!
Beautiful pictures! WIsh I was still there. Does anyone know how to clean the white “film” from the dried shells? Soaking in water and scrubbing doesn’t seam to help. Thanks.
This video on a previous post about cleaning shells turned out to be very controversial so before you clean your shells using this method, please read the comments and be very careful about disposing the leftovers if you still choose to do it. There are other suggestions in the comments are as well.
Thanks. I’ll read it over carefully before I decide what to do.
A beautiful sunrise this morning off Middle Gulf. Thanks for the photos and the great Twitter feed.
Loving the Stoop…..
I found something very similar to Madison’s “interesting find”. I’m really curious to what it could be!
Madison’s find looks somewhat like a birds foot!
It does sort of look like a bird’s foot…hmmmm I’ll ask Bonnie the Birder.
Bonnie doesn’t think it’s a bird part. hmmm what is it?
Wow-gorgeous photos today. Love the lighting and the colors.
oooh, the colors in your photos are just gorgeous.
And, that looks like a chicken foot. Ick.
Great finds. I am in awe of your beautiful photo’s today. The colors are absolutely amazing. ~~Sherry~~
Next year’s 75th Shellabration on the causeway should be a sight. They are going for a Guiness World Book of Records with 1,000 Sanibel stoopers on the causeway complete with an ariel photo. We could all wear our iLS aqua blue t-shirts and be a little sea blue spot in the picture :)
Yes! Lets do it!!! I know they have been working on this but I havent gotten definite dates or anything definite…..except that it will happen.
Ahhhhh….. what I’d give for a little stoop time…………
The family picture would look great in your calendar, Miss Pam!
heehee- I thought about you Marcia, when I saw this photo op!
The colors are just amazing, Pam! Reminds me of Wyeth paintings. Just breathtaking. Thank you!
This post made me realize that I MUSt go on vacation somewhere warm with a beach…like now!
Beautiful scenery and pictures!
Wish I was there right now.
Susan in Toronto
Gorgeous pictures, Pam. What good luck for all of us that, not only are you keeping us connected to our favorite place on earth, but that you are such a great photographer!
When you get a date for the Shell Fair let us know. Being there next year is on my “bucket list” and wearing our blue shirts sounds like a winner – can’t wait for my May trip this year!!
I think the mystery item is a worn down turtle shell bone from the plastron part of a turtle shell (that’s the flat bottom half of a turtle shell.) I’ve found similar irregular 4 pronged ‘boney’ items like the item pictured on Sanibel. Anyone else found somthing like it?
BTW, I love your blog, I read it everyday at lunch when I’m forced to be away from Sanibel. Caren
Hey, Caren, Thanks! It sure looks like it could come from something like a turtle shell. I’ve never found that same thing but I do find some unusual things out there so maybe I’ll put up a page of UBOs …. Unidentified Beach Objects.
