Sanibel has had so much rain in the past month, we’ve had flooded streets, yards and parking lots. Now that we have had a few days of sunshine, we are finally drying out. It’s so refreshing to be on the beach without the threat of a thunderstorm and to enjoy the site of shells and beautiful skies.
I’ve found mostly shell crush (broken shells, bits and pieces), drift shells (smooth beach worn shells) and Sanibel’s most common shells (CLICK HERE for the top six shells) but they remind me I should start some shell craft projects using the same shells that are on our beaches in SW Florida all the time.
I’ve always wanted to do a frame like this as friend Rhonda makes …
But after having lots of home improvement projects this summer, all I want to do is enjoy walking the beach to unwind and to admire all of these beautiful shells (broken or not!) and the landscape that surrounds them. Beach therapy is the best therapy on the planet.
Beach therapy is definitely the best therapy. Wishing I was there after another hectic week. Thanks for the pics!
…. and Pam, you’re the best counSHELLor ever!!
LOVE all the beach therapy :)
Shellotte
You are such a cutie! Haha :)
I’ll be getting me some of that beach therapy in a week. My wife and I will be enjoying an unusual fall break from school, and we will be coming to Sanibel. Can’t wait.
Since I’m inland from the coast, I get my “beach therapy” by walking along the gravel bars and wading in the shallows of the Willamette River (Oregon). Water is so soothing. I love standing knee deep in the water and watching the little fish swimming around my legs. All I’m missing is the gentle splash of waves on the shore, oh, and the shells! Ha!
I was wondering if you’d ever been to Mexico Beach? My brother moved there last year and I’m visiting this month. Wondering what the shells might be like?
Well honey, you just made my day! I saw “shellcrush” and “drift shells” on your FB post and just had to pop over and lo and behold, there’s one of my frames! Thank you for always inspiring me and being such an amazing advocate for our beaches and our favorite past time. That pile is calling my name!!!
Rhondaaaa!! Omigosh I hope you are doing well! Are you still making these frames? The link I used for this photo ages ago wasn’t working anymore so I just linked it to the original post. Please add your new link info if you are still selling them. We would love to see more of your beauties. Xo
Funny, I’m actually just starting up again and hoping to refill my Etsy store in time for the holidays. I will definitely let you know when I do! Thanks!!! I’m definitely in need of some beach time. xoxoxo
Pam, the shell frame you made is gorgeous. I have an assortment of “broken” shells from Sanibel. There’s always a special artistic beauty I find in the shape or design of these so called imperfect shells. Would you mind sharing “how to” directions for making Rachel’s mirror? Do you have a favorite website that you go to when you want to make shell crafts?
I love Rhonda’s frame, I had seen it on her blog. I always pick up broken shells. I made a mirror with peach & cream jingle shells, covered “B” with mini shells and finally took your advise and made a sand dollar wreath. I definitely need to pick up more minis. Will be there Oct. 24th. I still need a project for olives, any suggestions anyone?
I would like to know if I have a right hand whelk. I have pictures thank you. Anita Griffis
