Captiva sunset with shore bird
Have you ever seen a GREEN FLASH? It’s a phenomenon that occurs on clear evenings when the sun disappears on the horizon then a small green flash appears for just a second. It took me a long time to become a believer but after I saw my first one (I’ve only seen 3), I know it does happen. I’ve never been able to catch it on video but I thought I caught it this time, so tell me what you think.
As you can see by the picture below, no shells at Blind Pass but I did get this pretty picture of our friends Missy and Gary. So cute!

I watched the video 3 times and I couldn’t catch it, darnit! I guess it’s something you have to witness in person at least once to see it on video. One of these days Pam, one of these days! Great sunset anyway! Absolutely beautiful!

Yup! I saw it! What a beautiful sunset. It reminds me of why I live at the beach. Alas, not on Sanibel or Captiva but on the other coast of Florida in Jacksonville Beach.

I’ve never seen one so I have never believed . . . and I didn’t see it in your video either. Maybe I need to keep watching and try to develop some faith! :)
Maybe it’s like looking for sharks teeth or shells your eye has to be trained to see that green flash.
I agree with JudyO~a practiced eye is needed, lol! When exactly does the flash occur? Is it after the last sliver of light is visible or is it just that last bit of sun reflecting at the very edge of the horizon giving the light a greenish hue for a split moment? I have witnessed and photographed many a clear sunset and watched for the green flash. A time or two i thought i saw…something…and assumed it was the wishful thinking of a wanna be mermaid. :)
Wait Just A Minute!! I went back and watched the video again and I saw it!!! I got cold Chills!!!
No, no green flash, but we want to come back to Sanibel and try seeing it in person. Didn’t get a chance on our one night there. You are so blessed to live there. We loved the time we spent there, although it was only a day.

I live on Sanibel, full time, and have seen the elusive green flash myself. It is not in your video, however…..
I believe in the green flash. Never seen one but hope to one day. Sorry can’t see it in your video. Maybe it is something that has to be seen with the naked eye.
