would love to be included in the giveaway!! Will be there in October…..

  14. Diana says:

I visit your wonderful site almost daily; I especially love your beautiful pictures! Please keep them coming!

I would love to win the sifter-scoop, too! I hope to visit Sanibel again in March 2012 and anything I can do to minimize bending down hundreds of times as I ‘harvest’ shells would be appreciated by my aged (and somewhat disabled) body!

Seeing the scoop again brings a question to mind: I’ve noticed some shellers with VERY VERY long (approx 18″ or more?!) tweezers/tongs/’picker-upper’ tools to actually grasp individual shells off the beach. Do you know where they get those?

  15. I’m so excited! I have wanted a sifter ever since I found I Love Shelling! My husband lost his job with a major newspaper a year before his retirement. We moved to the Cape to be near our sons and my family. Its been hard financially, but boy are we blessed to be surrounded by the beaches SW Florida! Dan and I are one with the Universe when we beachcomb! Beachcombing is the best way to unwind while helping to keep our beaches clean. Yes, I would love to win a sifter!!

  16. Tam Tam from Michigan says:

That’s the one thing I don’t have for shelling! Think I’m needing that for my December trip with my daughter Shell and my friend, Barb!! hehehe

  17. Janice says:

Oh I love that seashell sifter; would love to have one so please enter me in your contest! I am hoping and praying my husband will be able to take off work this fall for us to visit our beloved island, Sanibel. We haven’t been able to come down there since 2009 due to economy/lack of work but now that he is working again, can’t find the time but I am trying to get him to take off. I miss Sanibel so much; will be 2 years in September since we have been. I’ve been vacationing there since 1977 and my hubby was given the “Sanibel test” in 1983 before we married to be sure he loved my vacation spot………….he did and does!!
I love your blog and the photos keep me in touch with the most special place in the world to me!!

  18. Diana says:

  21. Cshells says:

Pam forgot to mention that when you win the scoop you become an instant celebrity. You wouldn’t believe the people who would recognize me on the beach with my scoop that I won last year. So not only did I win the scoop, I gained a lot of new friends. Thanks again Pam. No need to enter this year, I’m already a winner in more ways that I can count.

  22. Ruth says:

  24. Hi Pam!! I would love to be entered in the contest!! My husband and I due to owning a business have sadly:( not been able to make it to our favorite place in the world for the last 3 yrs:(:(. But hopefully in the coming year we will once again be able to drive across the causeway and see paradise once again god willing:)

He is so hard to buy for, never mentions anything….it would really be cool to get one from Pam the Sanibel Shell Administrator….that ought to increase the value at least 10 fold!! :)

I would love to get one of those scoops! I would love to be in Sanibel right now. I love shells and have boxes full in my attic but cannot part with any. I also have shells and shell motif items all over my house. I wish I could win, but holding my breath is not likely to make it happen.

  122. Corly says:

We have been coming to Sanibel since 1976 with my folks. In 2006 we were fortunate to invest in our own condo on the island. We continue to love our visits from Iowa and are avid shellers. We would love to try this sifter. And we hope to meet you on the beaches one day. Love and appreciate your wonderful blog.

  123. Laura says:

Is it possible to find an albino banded tulip? I found a white banded tulip with yellowish lines. I found in the water so it probably isn’t sun bleached and it’s smooth so it’s not worn away. We met our son (who’s in the Air Force stationed in Tucson) and his family in Sanibel in June for our 14 month old grandson’s first beach vacation! We hope to return this fall since my son is looking at his third deployment and we need our beach fix in cause he goes! We sure could use the scooper to aid our hunt. Please enter me in the giveaway!

Have been visiting (not as much as I would like) since the early 1960′s! Seen a lot of changes! My husband and I would put the shell scooper/sifter to good use as we have recently purchased a home in Cape Coral – as close as we could afford to get to Sanibel! Thank you for your posts!

Thanks for a great webisite… I love to go on each week and see all the latest shelling news, and love reading the stories from all your followers. I would like to enter your “Giveaway” for the shelling tool (looks awesome, and I bet it works great!!!) Heres my comments……

Ahhhhh….. Sanibel. Can’t wait to return in November for my 9th Annual “4 generation girls getaway to Sanibel”. It all started when my daughter was born and I wanted to come down from NH to spend a bit of quality time with my daughter, my mother, and my grandmother- knowing that at 90 my grandmother and daughter might not have a lot of opportunites to be together, and wanting to get the 4 generations together in a room on the beautiful beaches of Sanibel (beacause it might be our only opportunity to get the 4 generations together.) Well, one year turned into 2, and 2 turned into 3…. and have developed quite a tradition- we keep coming to the Seaside Inn every year- same room every year, and have had wonderful memories of shelling on the beaches at Blind Pass and the Lighthouse, with my daughter compiling quite a collection that even impressed the folks at Bailey Matthews Shell Museum (and yes- she has found a junonia that she dug out with a pod of tulips in about 1 foot of water in the waters near the Lighthouse- not bad for a 7 year old at the time!). Each year when we sadly check out to leave the Seaside Inn the same scene plays out… Granny taps me on the shoulder and whispers “Honey, be sure to book next November now… the beachfront rooms will go fast.” I sooooo look forward to this exchange, as my grandmother was 98 last year shen she tapped my shoulder and made the same statement about booking now for when “we come next year”. Well Granny is celebrating her 99th birthday this October, and we will be heading to the Seaside Inn in November, and I can’t wait. More importantly- my daughter can’t wait to see Great-Granny who she loves very much, knows very well despite the distance between NH and Fort Myers where she lives independently, and has learned much from over the years… i.e. how to play 500 rummey without mercy, how to lose gracefully to your 97-year old great-grandmother at shuffleboard, how to find the “rollers” in the waves and catch them with your net as they head back towards the sea… and the precious memories continue to build. It amazes me that my grandmother is going to be 99 this year and still is sharp as a tack- even still remembering and describing her first kiss with a twinkle in her eye! I do not know how much longer we will have together, but I can say with certainty that continuing the tradition of trips down to Sanibel for the annual “4 generation trek” have been one of the better decisions I have made in my life. My daughter REALLY KNOWS her great-grandmother (how cool is that?!), and the many jars and boxes of shells that she has collected on the trips will be the thread that keeps the memories alive over the years to come. Ahhhhh….. Sanibel. What a treasure.

    • Carol Hydeman says:

I love your posting, Susan. Many wonderful, irreplaceable memories are made on Sanibel. My in-laws accompanied my family on most trips. Sadly they are both gone, but as I shell, I can hear my father-in-law’s voice in my ear: “Whatcha finding, doll?” My daughter and I would literally spend hours digging through a pile of shells. She got brown as a berry and I got red as an apple! Give your great-grandmother an extra hug for those of us who cannot hug our grandmothers.

      • susan says:

Thanks for sharing your reply Carol. I will give Granny that extra hug… and thanks for reminding me just how fortunate I am.

  214. Will it make me as super as Clark? ;)

    Hello Pam,

I have been following your site for about five months now. My daughter and I moved to Cape Coral in June and we have fallen in love with shelling. We’re still learning about tides, shell identification, and so much more. We have been looking for a tool like this all over Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Please enter me in the giveaway. My daughter and I would very much enjoy it!

    Thank you,
    Tammey

  218. Carol Hydeman says:

I need this for my next trip to Sanibel!! My family will all be together, including my Japanese son-in-law, who has never been to our piece of Paradise. My son will be returning after 17+ years away from where he spent almost every summer as a kid. It definitely will get lots of use. Does Clark guarantee it will find a junonia?

  219. Julia says:

    Pam,
I love your web site ..Please enter me in the giveaway

  220. Brent Davis says:

My wife and I have just moved to Ocala and look forward to weekend trips to Sanibel. I am the sheller in the family and she is the beautiful sun goddess.

It is fantastic how you keep the sea and seashells in the hearts of so many who aren’t lucky enough to live in such close proximity to heaven on earth. We would love to be entered in your contest for the sifter.

  221. Lisa says:

I would love to win one of these scoops as we will be returning to Sanibel Island for a 2nd time in the near future!!!

  223. Tammy Pruitt says:

My husband and I love your website. We are addicted to checking it everyday. Visiting Sanibel and collecting shells has become a tradition for our family. My seven year old would love this for her birthday in a couple of weeks. Please enter me in your giveaway.

  224. Cindy says:

    Hi Pam,
Count me in on the drawing. We always said life is too short for re-runs but we can’t stop coming to Sanibel in the spring. I’m addicted to shelling and use a dog pooper scooper for shelling. The seashell sifter would keep me from getting all wet since my scooper has a short handle. I’ve recommended your island and the “I Love Shelling” site to others here in the midwest. Perhaps we will meet this year on the beach!

  225. Melissa Bossier City, LA says:

Would make life easier with the scooper. That is a fanstatic, wonderful idea. Would love to have 1, 2, or more. Thanks, Melissa

  226. Sani-Belle Val says:

    Hello Sweet Shelling Sistah, Pam
I am so happy for you that you have such a following…but then for all of us lucky enough to have been to Sanibel or to have found your wonderful blog, or to have met you and SuperSheller Clark in person, or to look forward to doing so, it was inevitable….and more and more when I mention Sanibel and iloveshelling I run across folks who actually know our “secret”, so book early!

I’m headed off to Cancun for a week and checking out your posts is making me very excited for the beach! Isla Mujeres right nearby is also a long north to south island like Sanibel – I hear shelling might be good on the Eastern side! Here’s hoping.

  238. Lynda says:

I can’t wait until my fall vacation to spend days doing nothing but shelling!

  239. Julie says:

So so so love Sanibel!!! So so so love your blog!!! Stumbled upon it researching for our next visit down. I’ve been visiting since I was little and have hooked my husband and son. Keep the inspiration and dreaminess coming our way! You rock – rather you shell :-) ! Yeah, I know that’s really lame – it’s been a long week getting ready to start school.

  240. Stacey Cottrell says:

    I want one!!!!!!!!

  241. Mike says:

I want to be included in the seashell scoop giveaway. We’re heading to Blind Pass this November and the seashell scoop would be a nice surprise for my wife

  242. Logan Opsahl says:

Even though Im thousands of miles away from Sanibel, a shell sifter would be nice! I will be back in April, and maybe this time with a shell scoop. :)

  243. Robin says:

Maybe if I won this shell sifter, I’d be able to find some good shells down here!! We’re here and very disappointed with the shelling. :(

  244. Betty Hutson says:

We were just in Sanibel at the end of July with friends who had never been there before. They loved it so much we are going back next April to celebrate her birthday. The shell sifter would be an awesome present for Dianne!!!

  246. Candy Derrick-Houston says:

I would love to be entered in the Susick Seashell Sifter give away. I don’t know where to sign up. :) That sifter looks awesome and my sister in law and I spend two weeks on Sanibel every year. We totally enjoyed our trip there in late May-early June this year. We found a lot of shells but didn’t see as many as years before but Sanibel is THE best place ever! We met several people on the beach, took a photo of a guy bringing in a huge snook from shore and shared shells with a couple who had lost all their shells due to the maid throwing them out with the trash (at a local hotel). It was a wonderful trip, can’t wait until next year! We already have the same condo reserved. :) I love your site! :)

Have a shell-filled day in paradise! XXOO

  247. Vania says:

That is a great idea, you know how many times I got home with my back killing me because of being bent down after a long day at the beach looking for shells. awesome!

  248. Nancy McLean says:

I used my sister’s when I went to visit her in Fort Myers. We went to Sanibel every day! I would love one for here on Cape Cod! They are the best!

  249. Please enter me in the give away. We are planning on getting to Sanibel some time this fall if things work out for us. PS: Sorry my web site is not shell related. :o )

  250. Wanda Kefauver says:

We took our 7 yr old Grandson to Assateague Island in Maryland for a week. We bought a heavy duty metal version of the shell basket when we were in Sanibel last winter. You can’t find anything like it up north – at least no where we looked. Anyways, our grandson loves shelling and sealife – he had a high old time all week shelling off of Assateague with the scooper. We’ve been going there for years and only ever found broken pieces of shells.

This trip we found sea glass and WHOLE shells. Not near as nice as Sanibel, but lots of little treasures. He informed us he wants to go along when we go to Sanibel again.. My daughter-in-law was amazed with our finds when we got home. She too, only ever found pieces all the times they went to Assateague.

  251. kathy screws says:

wow Pam… what a great response to your giveaway for the shell sifter-shovel…
Please add me to the mix for the giveaway. I may not be able to use it for a few months due to my health issues at present, but you can bet it will sit in my room as a constant reminder and goal of hope for recovering!.
A HUGE HUGE thanks to the two awesome ladies that sent me the shells this week… you have no idea what a role you are playing in my recovery and an encouragement to rest in order to heal so I can get back to the shores of Sanibel and Captiva! both gifts are beside me on the bedstand and whenever I get discouraged or am in alot of pain, all I have to do is look over at these shells, take a deep breath, and am relaxed.. P- that small trinket box handpainted and filled with precious mini shells, my fave, is a priceless gift! Thank you so very much! Have a blessed weekend all you shelling sisters and brothers!

    Pam,
I adore your blog and I love reading all the great tips, and stories. My family is going to Sanibel this Christmas and I am sooooo excited. I have only gone to California once and ever since i found 1 sea shell I was inspired to find more. I never found much but I am hoping to in Sanibel! The only shells I find are only pieces of shells. What are the best tips you have for me? Thanks soooooo much for creating such a great blog!!

  289. Beth says:

After losing several layers of skin on my leg from our metal shelling basket on our recent trip that plastic one may save a leg!!!!!!!!!!!!

  290. robin says:

I’m sitting here enjoying the glories of your wonderful site in flickering candlelight because Pennsylvania is getting its relatively minor lashing from Hurricane Irene. I know that I have truly become a spiritual citizen of Sanibel because hurricane alerts are usually scintillating things that spawn surreal fantasies of shell covered beaches. This hurricane in Amish Country is annoyingly shell-free.

I would dearly love to win this Clark-sanctioned shell scoop. Count me in!

Just 20 days ago I was on your beaches. With each birthday it gets harder to wait to return.

Thank you for this beautiful bridge to paradise that you have created for us all.

    Robin
