Collecting seashells on the beaches of Sanibel, Captiva and the world

Shelling Guides

To get to the out islands of north and south of Sanibel and Captiva, you can hire a shelling guide to take you North Captiva, Cayo Costa, the out islands of Fort Myers Beach, Bonita and other secret shelling spots where you don’t have as much “competition” to finding the best shells. Here are my faves…

  1. I saw the pics and post regarding the apple snails and ohhh so gorgeous!!!! Do you have any additional information regarding directions and finding them? We are arriving this Tuesday and will be here for 1 week. Also, do you have any shelling trips? I see the schedule beginning in September but cannot find information about August possibilities!! Hoping to see you again in person so I can personally thank you for the beautiful canvas I won. I would love to take pictures of the apple snails to put on canvas for myself since I’ve fallen in love with them as well. Also, I have a fish skeleton and some type of murex I think that I’m unable to identify and would love your expertise in finding out the name of these treasures I’ve found. Thanks and I’m counting the hours until I leave tomorrow!

  2. Hello Pam,

My mother and I took one of your shelling cruises this summer and we had a great time. My husband and I were in Sanibel a couple of years ago and did a private shelling trip with Brian Holaway. We had a great time! My husband and I will be back in Sanibel December 5-8 and were hoping to do another trip with Brian, however he is unavailable on those dates. Do you do private shelling trips? If so, we would love to book one with you. If not, is there someone you can recommend for the two of us to contact?

    Thanks and Happy Shelling!

    • I’m so sorry Penny but I don’t do private shelling trips and besides Brian, I don’t know who I could suggest- he’s the best!! So sorry!

  3. PAM, I DON’T see your list of favorite guides – besides mention Brian

I like your new website but what was helpful about old — was as i was on my way down, i could see what had been happening, e.g.,captiva pile gone since last high tide and thus feel ready to go the next morning!!
…. a couple of months ago i went to caya costa with host of airbnb and there was nary a shell!!! and speaking of airbnb there are no places available now. I liked to stay at tropical winds (although i missed last year and the interesting couple who managed it left – do you happen to know where they went?? they said no one was there in october

    thanks, Linda

  4. Hi Pam, any suggestions for shelling cruises this weekend? Not having much luck with shell finding.
