We normally see lots of WHELK EGG CASES on most of the beaches but we only see bits and pieces of HORSE CONCH EGG CASES and not even every day. This one is so huge I had to take a picture to show you that inside each of those little folds (that look like smooshed waffle ice cream cones) are our treasured HORSIE shells. I found this today at the lighthouse. The sky is so blue and the water is every shade of aqua……and there are shell piles building up. Look!

I have to confess. I borrowed this photo from you for my laptop background (the shells and water, not the whelk case, lol) when you posted it a few months ago. It is exactly what I like to remember about Sanibel. I cannot tell you how many people have asked me about this photo. It is my work laptop and when I give presentations or do webex meetings, people are always asking me about it and i always give you credit but I think I may also be finding a few more sanibel fans out there as well. People can’t believe that this is really what the beach on Sanibel looks like in places. I hope you don’t mind me borrowing it. It is my absolute favorite!!!

Thank you for having some of the egg sacks on your sight. My husband and I belong to the Grand Strand Shell Club and needed names for some of the egg sacks that we display and educate the public on. i found that same egg sack at casperson beach in venice on 4-25-2012 someone said it was string rays egg sack??????so i dried it and today took it to show a friend and small shell started to fall out of it, came home went on your site and there is a picture of it almost same size. im so excited at my find…good shelling
Yay! I was wondering what kind of seashell egg casing I found on the beach the other day. Beautiful! Maybe next time there will be some tiny seashells in them.
