I was honored and humbled to be a part of Rotary International’s District Conference 6960 over the weekend and to share the beauty and gifts of Southwest Florida with these awe inspiring folks.
Although the speakers, entertainment and work being done to help save the world (and I’m serious- they truly are helping folks around the world), it was time to get outdoors, take a boat ride to the secluded island of Cayo Costa and enjoy this amazing part of the planet.
And find some treasures!
I’m thrilled it was a beautiful day to hang out with them and thank them for their work. Most of y’all know that Congress Jewelers gives $25 gift certificates to all shellers on my iLoveShelling cruises but you probably didn’t know Scot Congress is a Rotarian too. He’s very generous to the shelling community but he’s also very generous when it comes to his Rotary Club so everybody on this Rotary cruise got a $25 gift certificate as well. Yippee!
Everybody was excited about that and to find shells and fellowship… ahem… SHELLowship.
It was especially fun to hang out with some of the Rotary Youth Exchange students who, by the way, were having a blast. Really, do you think they were having fun? LOL
The strength and possibilities that one group can do is so encouraging.
Okay so talking about encouraging… Dr Todd Golde – Director for Center for Translational Research Neurodegenerative Disease (in other words… he’s a guy trying to find a treatment for Alzheimers- pretty big deal I’d say) and the other phenomenal speakers at the conference were given thank you gifts from the District President Pete Doraugh… he chose to give them Pam Rambo Shellography! Wow, pretty humbling because again, its such an unbelievable honor.
Okay, I know everything here isn’t exactly talking about shells or the beach but these things are very important to me and most of the time y’all enjoy the same things I do. So I want to share another Rotary service project they accomplished over the weekend. Ive talked many times about CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) because we’ve rescued countless birds and other wildlife on the islands while out shelling that we’ve taken there (to read them- CLICK HERE) … so this is way cool. If you’ve ever heard about Ozzie The Bald Eagle here in SW Florida, you know that this BALD EAGLE was injured and taken to CROW for his recovery. Well, he is ready for is next phase of recovery so he needs to be in a bigger L shaped cage to strengthen his wings and practice flying hard lefts and rights. Rotarians to the rescue! They cleaned and re-sanded the cage to make sure everything is fresh and new for OZZIE the celebrity EAGLE we all fell in love with after watching he and his mate Harriet care for their EAGLETS on a webcam. We didn’t get to see OZZIE while we were there since this is a very delicate recovery but just to be able to help get his cage ready was really awesome.
So now you see that so many things on our islands blend together and our shelling community bonds us in so many more special ways than just walking the beach. Oh and I didn’t even mention that Melissa Congress (I’ve introduced you to before at Congress Jewelers) is the President of the Board Of Directors at CROW? Isn’t that crazy how our lives intertwine so much?
But the most important reason that this was a particularly amazing weekend for me was because my husband Clark (Super Sheller Clark) was responsible for putting this whole conference together as the District Conference Chairman. I don’t talk too much about this part of our lives (maybe one other time CLICK HERE) but Im very proud of him and the good man he is. Whoop whoop! Way to go honey!
Yes! I’m over the Moon Shell that Sealife By Congress (now located inside Congress Jewelers) is showcasing my artwork in signed canvas sizes 12×12 and 20×20 with a “Gallery Opening” March 16 from 11am to 3pm. Yall have inspired me to share the journey of my shelling adventures through my camera lens so we can learn more about our found beach treasures and enjoy the love of shelling together. Because of that journey, I have focused on capturing the essence of the bliss we feel through our beach combing experiences and have found another passion – photography. So… Shellography Photography was born! I hope some of my canvases will remind you of some of your favorite shelling days too.

Finally. After weeks of calm, hot weather in Lee County waiting to see treasures wash up on our beaches… we found them in Cayo Costa on our iLoveShelling cruise with Captiva Cruises.
Shellers were finding BANDED TULIPS, LIGHTNING WHELKS, PEAR WHELKS, NUTMEGS, FIGHTING CONCHS and the shiniest most colorful LETTERED OLIVES I have seen in a while.
And then there’s this… James from Kentucky found a big beautiful HORSE CONCH completely intact. Shellzam! What a find!
Not only were there shells, we saw plenty of wildlife and beautiful scenery on our secluded island.
Our boat was filled with shellers from all over the world who got to know one another and share experiences AND share the shells they were finding.
It was so much fun to meet beach explorers like Dominic finding treasures with his family from Ohio.
And to see hawk eye shellers Rachelle and Justin again (they were on our May cruise too!) not only finding amazing shells but I think they gave away more than half of the shells they found. Shellers are awesome!
We were finding shells just at the water’s edge…
as well as on the beach and wading waist high.
Shelling Sister Susan and Jerry from Panama City were thrilled to find beautifully patterned double SUNRAY VENUS shells half buried in the sand.
Kathy from Tulsa was on our cruise too! She still has her lucky Margarita bucket but since this one is on its last leg, I guess more margaritas are on order- whoohoo! I’m positive the next bucket will be lucky too.
Its so much fun to hang out with other happy shellers and especially to see the excitement when there are lots of treasures piling up in all sorts of shell bags and buckets.
And of course…. everybody on the cruise got an unbelievable $25 gift certificate to Sealife By Congress!!! Sealife By Congress thinks shellers are awesome too!

Shellzam! Brenda from Indiana found an empty, big, beautiful LIGHTNING WHELK on our iLoveShelling Sight Sea-R cruise to Big Hickory Island today. Wow!
Cuties Rachel and Danielle helped her shellebrate while feeling happy with their finds too on this fabshellous adventure. So fun!
It was a fun and gorgeous morning pulling up to this small island sand bar at low tide.
Emily and Lily from Kentucky found SAND DOLLARS, shells and some cool bling…
Jessica (NY) found a nice size ALPHABET CONE, SHARKS EYES, ROSE PETAL TELLINS and lots of WORMS SHELLS and her mom Kathy found a very cool ROSEATE SPOONBILL feather in the wrack line.
Dima and Amy (MI) found some beauties!
Kelsea and Lori from South Carolina showed me their fave finds which included that cool BRYOZOAN COLONY, LACE MUREX, an awesome dark twisty WORM SHELL, GAUDY NATICA, WHITE CRESTED TELLIN and ROSE PETAL TELLINS.
Kim and Jon from St Louis showed me their faves too… a sweet baby ALPHABET CONE, a gorgeous FLAT SCALLOP, SUNRAY VENUS, ROSE PETAL TELLINS and wormies.
Leah, Julianna, June (MD) and Gramma Diane (NJ) found most of their shells in a little honey hole in the water. Way to go girls!
On the way to the island, we saw ROSEATE SPOONBILLS, STINGRAYS and DOLPHINS as I chose a winner for the Sealife By Congress sterling silver sand dollar pendant giveaway. Congratshellations Mackenzie! It was such a pleasure to meet you and your mom Tammi and your sister Peyton.
Everybody else on the cruise was happy too. They received a $25 certificate towards a jewelry piece of their own. Yay! Thank you Sealife By Congress– thats so nice!
I think everybody on the cruise found ROSE PETAL TELLINS and CORAL.
And everybody found WORMIES!
First Mate Meg even shelled for 5 minutes and found a BEACH BLING “Sea Hero” that guarded some of her other finds. cute!
Oh and Ingrid (from my last post) joined us as well and showed us her JUNONIA she found in front of the Island Inn on Sanibel yesterday. Boom Shellalaka!
We were so lucky to have a beautiful warm sunny day to spend 4 hours hanging out and shelling together.
I am so happy to announce that starting in August, Sight Sea-R Cruises has changed the hours for their regular shelling cruises EVERY Wednesday to go from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (instead of leaving at 10am). Spectacsheller! So our iLoveShelling Sight Sea- R shelling cruises will be the same.
I love my new necklace I made out of a DOSINIA sea shell and a sterling silver SAND DOLLAR charm from Sealife by Congress jewelry store. I found this DOSINIA which already had a natural hole drilled in it (from a SHARK’S EYE- remember that post I did last month? CLICK HERE) so it was screaming for me to make it into a pendant.
I was so excited to receive one of these ever so sweet charms for our i Love Shelling shelling adventure on Tuesday’s Maiden Voyage on Sight Sea-R Cruises, I knew I wanted to wear it for that special occasion cruise. And you can have one too!
Yep, I have very big news for you. On every scheduled iLoveShelling cruise on the Sight Sea-R Cruises and iLoveShelling cruises on Captiva Cruises, Our friends at Sealife by Congress will be giving one sealife pendant to one lucky sheller! But hold on to your shelling hat- thats not all. Each passenger on an iLoveShelling cruise will also receive a gift certificate for $25 to the Sealife By Congress store! Oh yes, you will! Is that amazing or what? Sealife by Congress loves shelling too!
So you can be as happy as everybody on our iLoveShelling Maiden Voyage Sight Sea-R cruise…
When I showed off how I embellished my shell with my charm, Mary with Sealife by Congress told everybody if they found a shell they wanted to put their charm on, they could bring it to the store and they would put it on for them. I went in the store yesterday to thank them again for being so generous with the gifts and guess who I ran into… Pam and Pat from Texas (the “cutie cousins” I showed on my last post)! They were getting their charms put on necklaces.
Pam was very lucky to have picked out the JUNONIA charm- ooooo…I love this one. On our shelling cruise, she found a pretty COCKLE shell with a perfect hole to take in the store to have her JUNONIA charm added to her necklace. Such a wonderful memory! If you are on Sanibel, Captiva or in SW Florida stop and see them in Periwinkle Place on Sanibel- they are very “sheller- friendly”!
So along with finding seashell treasures on iLoveShelling cruises, you will find jewelry treasures as well.
I never got to show you all of the other photos from our Shelltastic Sight Sea-R Cruise. It was such a special afternoon with perfect weather, fabulous birding, amazing sealife sightings, a gorgeous sunset, and we all got to hang out with the nicest shellers in the world on a brand new 50 foot Cooper Pontoon boat (with a bar)…
And do some exshellent shelling.
So don’t forget to reserve your spot for any iLoveShelling Cruise on Sight Sea-R Cruises and also on iLoveShelling cruises with Captiva Cruises to have a shelltastic shelling cruise with me plus receive $25 off any Sealife by Congress jewelry. My favorite part of meeting other shellers is to see what makes them happiest. Interestingly enough, I heard almost everybody from Shellabaloo 4 say it was finally so nice to meet other people that feel the same way about beach combing as they do. There are other folks out there that don’t think we are crazy for wanting to shell all day!
On our final night, Kris made a beautiful display for our Shell ‘N Tell and pizza party in the newly remodeled Florida Room in Kimball Lodge at Island Inn– it’s perfect for parties and games. And I love games! So we played a game throughout our shelling adventure. I made up a scavenger “Shellinger Hunt” game that gave points for different shells and beach bling finds to display for our party night. So much fun! You can see Kris showed some of her answers as… 3 sets of THE SANIBEL SIX, a FOSSIL, 10 JINGLES in any BIVALVE and 2 pieces of BEACH BLING. Hmmmmm…. she found some interesting BEACH BLING, huh? A pipe? LOL
(Oh, and her hand in the first photo has a “wedding shell cone”- I don’t think thats a FLORIDA CONE)
This is another beautiful shell display by Nancy for our Shell ‘N Tell night….
Some folks may have been disappointed to come to Southwest Florida to wear coats and long pants earlier this week… but not shellers! Shellers know that, almost always, cold north winds bring in lots of sea shells. So when a group of shellers like the wonderful folks at Shellabaloo get together… cold weather gets us excited!
We get excited because we find shells like OLIVES, SHARKS EYES, GAUDY NATICAS, WHELKS, TULIPS, MUREXES, BUTTERCUPS and so many other shells…
A little cold weather in Florida would never have made Bette and Rick disappointed when you can stand a beach filled with shells.
There were so many miniature shells to be found too…
Suzanne found all of these mini shells by sifting through the shell piles right in front of Island Inn.
Conne was so excited to find a SAND DOLLAR since I think that was on her bucket list… I mean shell bucket list. heehee
I think everybody found a SAND DOLLAR or two. These were some of Ricks finds…
Angela (who I’m now calling “Anshella”) was thrilled to show us her favorite finds for our Shell ‘N Tell and pizza party…
Between “Good Will Shelling” (Will) and his wife Sarah The ShellAnimal, they found such interesting shells and bling. He found MERMAID PURSES (SKATE EGG CASES), a huuuge old FOSSIL shell (bottom right), and a “wedding shell” Ive never seen before. I told him that shell (top left between the SUNRAY VENUS) was a foreign shell that was probably bought for decoration for a wedding or party on the beach. I told him to take to to the Shell Museum to ask what it was and Dr Jose Leal verified that is was a TORPEDO shell probably from Indopacific area. They were still excited to find it!
Super Sheller Clark couldnt be with us each day for shelling (that “work” thing gets in the way)but he still wanted to participated in the Shell ‘N Tell so he brought some of our favorite finds over the last couple of years…
Clark helped me add up the points for each of the shells entered in the game so we could give the winner of the Shellinger Hunt this gorgeous STARFISH REEF necklace donated from Sealife by Congress. Thank you Sealife By Congress for supporting our Shellabaloo!
Drum roll Please! ……. The winner of the Shellinger Hunt was…. Sarah The ShellAnimal!!!! LOL She found 2 big WHELKS, a CARRIER SHELL, CONES, PAPER FIGS, 4 BABYS EARS, WENTLETRAPS and more. Congratshellations Sarah!
She had so many shells spread out, I didn’t even get a decent photo of them. But… I did get a photo of her prize shell. Her ROCK SHELL. We just don’t find these every day so I asked her to show Jose Leal at the Shell Museum too. Dr Leal verified that this shell is more rare (on Sanibel -where she found it) than the JUNONIA. Shellzam Sarah!
We had such a fabshellous time getting to know each other while shelling the beaches, sharing meals, exchanging stories and laughing with joy. I can’t put it any better than what Sarah said…. “I have to say this was one of the best times of my life! William surprised me with it for my birthday, and it was epic! These memories and friends I made will last forever!!”
When we have dates for Shellabaloo 5, you will be the first to know!
