My husband and I go to Sanibel once a year. We both love it. I have shelled all my life and still have shells I collected as a child. It is like heaven on earth to go to Sanibel and Captiva and shell. It is so great there that my husband, who did not think he would have fun shelling, loves it and looks forward to our annual trip. Your website was one I found in a web search and have used the information you provide to make the most of our trips to Sanibel. Thanks so much for all the pictures. It is nice to see the island while I am home I am counting the days to our next visit.

I am a big fan of your website. I visit it a lot and I have seen you in person at Blind Pass. I have been in 3 of your posts, August 12 and 11, 2010 and on February 24, 2011. I am really excited about the give away and the lighted hat looks awesome. Thanks for including me on your posts.
    Eddie

  8. Lauren says:

OMG!!! I absolutely love your website so much that I recommended it to my friends. I will be in Sanibel in November and would love to run into you and Clark! (even though Clark might have planted that Lightning Whelk I found on NJ beach weeks ago) haha. I just found a starfish yesterday and a horseshoe crab. The shelling here in NJ is not as wonderful as Sanibel, but it will have to do for now :)

  9. Betty Jo Wade says:

THANK YOU, PAM…you are awesome! LOVE your blog and all the wonderful educational information and gorgeous pictures. It really “enables” those of us survive between trips to Sanibel. Every time I gaze at my shell collection, some of which are right in front of me at my computer, I remember Sanibel and meeting you! Who knows? Someday maybe Rick and I will be residents! The lighted hat is genius!

  12. michele conard says:

Love your page-a must see a couple times a week and I always pass it along to others. Thank you-only wish I could be in Sanibel now or sometime soon-like yesterday.

  13. Amy says:

I still remember the day I met you…my family and I were visiting the Mucky Duck and you and I got talking when you asked, “Well, do you enjoy shelling?” We LOVE shelling…and since our most recent trip to Sanibel, my 8 year old has joined the ranks of shelling lovers :o ) We visit your site together and enjoy living vicariously through your Florida adventures as we live our normal lives in Iowa. Your light beam hat is a fabulous idea…and so much more fashionable than the head lamps I bought for our family from Walmart for our early-morning hunting :o )

  14. Linda Toft says:

My hubby gave me one of your regular ball caps for Christmas and I am SO READY for a trip to Sanibel to wear it to keep the sun off my head! How fun!…a night time version is now available! I won’t have to do my hair at all the next time we come down! Just slap on the cap! I am really missing my spring trip this year. Another adventure is calling us away….. but hopefully, we will be back on Sanibel this fall! Your posts help bridge the time away from the Islands! Thanks for helping me with my “Sanibel Fix”. I need a little Sand….Sun*…Water~~~~…and Shells@ to keep my sanity!

  15. Susie says:

Native Floridian from Tampa Bay :o ) I LOVE this group. I grew up shelling in Pass a Grille. Keep posting. You all are too much fun!

Love your website and especially enjoy your photos. I’m forever emailing them to my DIL (daughter-in-law) who is my frequent traveling companion to Sanibel. Hoping we can get back down that way before long for a girls only weekend. Thanks for all you do to promote Sanibel and shelling.

  17. Mindy says:

That hat is so cool! My husband and I are coming to Sanibel from NC in two weeks and I’ve been cruising around your wonderful blog getting myself exciting for some great shelling. I visited Sanibel for the first time when I was 13… went shelling with Captain Julie and visited with Ed Hanley at Neptune’s Treasures and have been a sheller ever since.

  18. Debbie says:

Wow!! I would love to have the cap. I have a clip on light but it doesn’t seem to be on tight so I am always messing with it to make sure it stays on. I have already lost one and had to buy another. What a great idea to put it in the cap. Your site keeps me connected to Sanibel/Captiva. Your information on shelling has been helpful. Love the islands and wish I was there.

  19. Karen Storms says:

I need that hat to find an elusive junonia! I’ve been visiting Captiva Island with my family for over 20 years and I have yet to find one!

Thank You so much for sharing the beauty and nature of the islands with those of us that can only visit! Everytime I wear the T-Shirt that I already own, I have people comment on how much they like it and then they ask about I Love Shelling. Of course I tell them all about your blog. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I am one of the lucky winners! Thank You!

  22. Jackie Brant says:

I was hoping to meet you the last time my mom and I were there and it just so happened you were away in Naples I think…. when we got home and saw your posts from there with the scotch bonnetts you found.
Anyway it would be great to win the give away I especially love the hat, what a terrific idea :)

  23. Love Love LOVE your website!!! I look forward to ALL of your posts and share them all the time! I have half of the Gulf Coast’s shells boxed up and in jars in my house! Moving man’s nightmare…but they are my treasures! Keep the updates coming!! :0)

We will be coming back to Florida this December and hopefully staying for three months. We are renting a cabin at Saibel for three days so that we can shell at all times of the day and night. The hat will really come in handy if I win. If not, we will all be buying one!! I so envy you that you can go shelling almost anytime that you want.

  28. Leanne says:

Love your website, Pam. I have learned so much. I am always telling my husband that “Pam from ‘I love shelling’ says……”. Also, it helps keep me from being too homesick (shellsick?) inbetween our trips to Sanibel.
Would love to win any of the items you are giving away. They would all come in handy for our trip in Oct.

  29. gail says:

What great prizes, perfect for all of us who are suffering from prolonged shelling withdrawal!

I like the tank top, you think it will make my boobs look bigger? Naw, didn’t think so….. ;)

  39. Susan Coster says:

It’s 90 degrees here in Chicago and I need that tank very badly. I miss Sanibel shelling so much! I have a neck injury so the Sanibel Stoop would probably be out of the question for me but that won’t stop me from trying upon my next visit!

  40. Terry......from Englewood says:

I have been watching your site now for several years. We stay in Englewood from February until the end of September. I enjoy going to Blind Pass down here, always looking for shells and sharks teeth. Have learned so much from your site. I check it several times a day. Keep up the good work. Would love to go to Sanibel. Haven’t been there since I was a kid. My mother had all of her kids shelling on the east coast near Flager Beach and St. Augustine and of course Sanibel and Ft. Myers. I send my mother one of your note cards every few weeks and she shares them with her old shelling buddy. Thanks for you site.

  41. Meghan says:

I will be back at Sanibel at the end of the month and then again in July! I sure could use some shelling gear! I love your blog!!

  42. Sheri Zipp says:

Pam, you are awesome and so generous!! I’m counting down to our next visit to Sanibel. In the meantime, we are in California right now and spent some time on Coronado Island today. Great to hit the beach, but definitely not the same as Sanibel. I’ll post when I get home. I would love to be included in your giveaway drawing. All of your prizes are on my wish list. May have to get together with you in Oct so I can try on the tanks first.

  43. Pam says:

Thank you Pam for sharing so much with us- especially those of us that dream of being able to go to the beach every day and can feel like we do because of you! Martha. :)

  45. Oh what sweet prizes. I love them all and what a great idea the cap is. I like to get up at dawn and take the dog to the beach, so it would be perfect for that. And it wouldn’t bother the wildlife. And it is in my favorite turquoise color! Yey.

  46. Duska says:

Love to read your blog and get all the good tips about shelling and the great videos and photos you post, I love the one of the Bobcat, wow.

  53. Karyn McKay says:

My mother and I are taking our 6th trip to Sanibel in November. We went down 2 weeks after hurricane Charlie hit and were on the first boat trip with Captiva Cruises to Cayo Costa. Within minutes my mother found a perfect 8 inch Angel Wing. When we showed the boat captain he said it was the largest one he had ever seen and he had grown up on the islands. That shell is her pride and joy. I have found 6 pieces of Junonia over the years and am hoping that this is the trip where I find a whole one!

  54. Sue Maschari says:

I love your blog, and read it every day. I have been to Captiva twice on vacation with my gracious sister and her husband. I love shelling and am looking forward to another shelling trip this coming August. I picked up your card with your website, ILoveShelling the past trip, and am so pleased to be able to check in with beautiful Sanibel/Captiva all the way from northern Ohio any time I want. Thank you so much for such great posts, it’s like being there with you every day!

  55. Indy says:

I check in on your blog daily and I’m never disappointed…..if the shells don’t thrill you then the beach scenes certainly will…..I hope you’ll keep on posting for a good while yet.

  57. Paul P. says:

The cap looks great! I MUST have one, whether or not I win it!!!

Absolutely loved the photos of the panther yesterday! WOW!

  61. Barbara Teitelzweig says:

    Dear Pam,

I have been shelling at Sanibel for six years now. Love your webpage. I first discovered it when surfing the web for information on shells found in Panama where I used to live many years ago. Since then I look forward to each update.

I found a rather aggressive hermit crab the other evening lodged in a lovely banded tulip. Usually they duck deep inside, but he bravely attacked my fingers. I satisfied him by returning him very quickly to his watery domain. Still, we can’t complain that the sea life at Sanibel is doing so well.

Hope to see you one day/evening as we search for those elusive jewels.

Just thought you might like my references to live shells. I consider them either owner occupied or tenant occupied.

    Barbara

  62. Connie says:

Hi Pam, I am a follower of your blog. You have a great format and is fun to see the shells when I can’t be there. We took our family to Sanibel last January and I was able to introduce my daughter-in-law and grandchildren to shelling.

  63. Andrea Self says:

I love your blog, check it every day and enjoy the spark you have given me to try to find my own shells. I love that because of your blog I am now obsessed with finding perfect banded tulips and I know more about seashells than any of my friends! :)

  64. mindy from Iowa says:

I fell in love with Sanibel in 2005 when I visited for the first time. I have been back once since then but often am dropping hints to my husband that I want to go back. Maybe winning one of these items would give my husband the kick in the pants to say “lets go!”

  65. Theresa Adkisson says:

I am missing Sanibel so much … was there this time last year but with one graduating college and one high school in the past three weeks, no time or money right now … so I live vicariously through your site … still ever so thankful for your visit with my Make a Wish family … you are an awesome and amazing person and what you did for that family is better than any prize you have on here!!!

  66. Karla Coffey says:

I really like your website!!! We are in Sanibel right now! I like looking at the shells you are finding about the time that we are planning a trip.

  67. Linda Gustafson says:

Loved Sanibel! Stayed in March when I came down for Red Sox spring training. Two things crossed off my bucket list in one trip. Came home with a bag of shells for each day I was there. Can’t wait to come back!

  68. Barb Mulligan says:

I love shelling, Sanibel and this blog…not necessarily in that order! 8^)

  70. connie knight says:

I check your blog every day and while I understand that you do have a life and occasionally miss a day I am always very dissappointed when there isn’t a new entry. I love Sanibel and reading blogs like yours keeps me connected and helps get me through to our next visit! I have the T-shirt and bag and just recently bought the T-shirt for a good friends’ birthday (she also loves Sanibel). Anyway I just wanted to say Thank-you for iloveshelling.com !

  71. Whitney A Tinsley says:

    I love shelling,
    I love Sanibel,
    What two better things,
    to make my summer swell!!!

  72. Sharon Wiggins says:

What a neat idea! I’ll be down the last week of June and this year I’m concentrating on finding a certain shell instead of all the different kinds that I can. At least that’s my plan now, but when I get there, I’m sure the plans will change. Recently found your website and I love it. Very informative and helpful, but I’m going to the Bailey Shell Museum this trip. Can’t wait to get there.

  73. Mary Ann Ross says:

Oh Wow, I would love to wear that hat the next time I’m up at 2 in the morning wading in the low tide pools. We are planning on November this year and maybe a quick day trip in September. Can’t wait, I miss Sanibel so much. Thank you again for keeping us informed and I hope we’ll meet on a beach.

  74. Moira says:

Hey Pam! It was great to meet you and “Super Sheller Clark” a couple of weeks ago on the sand bar in Blind Pass!! I love my i Love Shelling tank! It’s perfect for this hot weather in Chicago :) Kinda like Sanibel, but without the ocean breeze, the sand, the shells, the relaxation, and the only thing to think about is where to go shelling!!!

  75. kelly Disney says:

    Hi Pam :)

I LOVE your website, your shelling expertise, your blogs, your photos – everything!! I’m so glad I have had the pleasure to meet you personally and I look forward to doing some more shelling with you!!

  77. Bonnie says:

We’ll be visiting Sanibel/Captiva in mid July and would love to be sporting some iloveshelling.com gear. Ordered some of the flashlight filters for last year’s trip and forgot to pack them! Surprisingly, we couldn’t locate any for sale on the island, so didn’t do any nighttime shelling.
Just love this site – it sort of gives me a shelling fix between annual visits! Have learned quite a bit too. Thank you!

  78. kim says:

Wow- look at all the comments already – this is surely one popular site! AWESOME idea with the lighted hat. I’d love to win any of the items. And you know that if I should win, that I will be “phooning” in an upcoming photo with the item. Thanks for the chance Pam – you rock!

  79. Kaybe says:

I think the winner of the hat should be someone who would get ALOT of use out of it. ;D

  80. Heather says:

Awesome giveaway Pam! I think the lighted caps are a great idea. We’ve only been back from Sanibel for two weeks, and I’m totally missing it already.

  81. Kathy P. says:

I love your website. We will be visiting Sanibel in less than 2 weeks. Can’t wait to head to Blind Pass. I haven’t been to Sanibel since I was little and I can’t wait to see it again! We don’t have beaches like this in Missouri!

  82. donna pause says:

Our annual trip to Sanibel always yields lots of beauties, but this year was the absolute best! I have never found a horse conch in my 40 something years but this year I found 6!! Only 1 was perfect, but that’s OK. Unbelievable!

  83. Toni says:

First time to comment…..enjoy the blog and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all things Sanibel! I reside in Kentucky and spend 51 weeks a year dreaming of and planning my next trip to the island…. will be there this Saturday!!!! Can’t wait!

My family and I (Jim, Tam, Isabella, and Jackson) have been visiting your site (as well as the Mucky’s cam) daily since January. We booked our first (just us and no other friends or family) family vacation after finding your site. Once there, the links led me to a wealth of info about Sanibel and Captiva. I was hooked! We will be arriving in Captiva on Monday evening. ‘Looking forward to discovering a plethora of treasures. We hope to “run” into you “phoon!”:)

Hi Pam ~~~ In 1989 my family and I moved from Tampa, FL to Tualatin, OR. First I missed the SUN, then I missed the Surf, the Sand and the Shells! And I’ve been thinking of Sanibel ever since (did I just count five “S” words?). This Florida girl would be proud to wear an “I Love Shelling” hat in Oregon!!! And thank you, and Clark, for all that you do to keep us in touch with Paradise.
    Sincerely,
Sandra (oops, six “S” words) Goode

    Sanibel Hugs Shelling Sistah, Pam,
Just caught up with your latest entries and got my shelling/Sanibel fix. Your beautiful pictures and entertaining commentary always bring back many happy memories of our visits to the island and meeting you and super sheller Clark…what an impressive horse conch! Keep up the good work and I know I’ll see you on our favorite beach again sometime!

  95. Kaaren says:

Hi- It figures that people that like the “treasure hunting” aspect of shelling would love a contest too! What nice prizes :- ). I am going to Captiva for the first time next winter. If you are looking for conch shells– try Belize! There were tons of them everywhere. I can’t wait to get there and go beachcombing!!

  96. Cheryl says:

Will arrive tomorrow…can’t wait! hope to spot you on the beach!

  97. Danielle says:

  100. kimber says:

Pam you & Clark have spent so much time on us all,the photos and reporting, the time you both take in making sure what you post is correct .. Everything :-) wish there was something we all could do to show how thankful we are. I know I am.

You both do so much to promote Sanibel & Captiva ,more then I’ve ever seen & I’m sure many will agree with me.

Your website is “THE” website to visit. It’s helped me when other sites couldn’t for all my Sanibel trips,it’s also such a great educational site for all ages.
It’s great to see what’s going on at the island before our visits :-)
I really hope your website never leaves the web, I don’t know where I’d go for my Sanibel fix.

  101. Sylvia says:

Love your website! I live thousands of miles from the nearest beach, so I have to collect “store-bought” shells. But I can still dream of seeing the real thing some day!

  102. Terry Benczik says:

I look forward each day to seeing what new finds you have discovered on the beach and the people you have met. I never expected to see a bobcat! I shared that one with a friend in the UK.

  103. Cathy says:

Love your site. I enjoy visiting each day. Thanks for the chance to win.

  104. Wanda Kefauver says:

Your web site is my sanity. We were on Sanibel for a short two days on Jan 1 and 2 this year. My husband has promised to bring me back. Meanwhile when life gets me down, I revitalize by checking out your web site. Hubby is in end stage renal failure and is now on dialysis while waiting for a kidney to come available. That will be years down the road yet. I am so grateful for your web site. I really think you help more people than you realize with your site — whether it be getting a Sanibel fix, or giving them an escape through tough times. Thank you!!!

  105. Hunter says:

    The Hat is Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. Tricia G says:

Your shelling blog is the BEST Pam, I enjoy keeping up with your daily posts and gorgeous shell and shorelife photos! (and who wouldn’t love some FREE stuff????!). Trish

  109. Katherine Haskins says:

I am one of those ‘shellers in the dark’, so a lighted hat would sure come in handy. But I really like the tank and the tote too!! Thanks for keeping me connected to my most favorite place in the whole world. We were there in March and have 9 months to go before we come back again. Your site is the best part of my day.

    Katherine

  110. Sheilah Harrell says:

Daily I read your blog. It gives me a reminder of why I love Sanibel so much. I live on the coast of NC and the lighted hat would be perfect for night walking on the beaches here and not interferring with turtle season.

  111. Tam Tam from Michigan says:

Well Pam Pam….Good luck in picking a Winner! So many fans, so many fans of shelling! You bring a little sunshine into all of our lives that cannot live there and shell weekly….what a dream that would be! I am just so happy that I have shared my passion for shelling with a few close family and friends and that you have showed “them”…that I’m really not the only crazy shell nut out there! They all think I’m obsessed but know they know I’m not the ONLY one!!! After all, when you name your only child Shell…people do wonder! Thanks for doing this site for ALL of us!
    Tam Tam

The family is returning for the 7th year June 13-18! We enjoy your daily blog and learn so much about the Islands, but also the comments, watching for folks from Missouri who love Sanibel as much as we do. Of course, we love the shelling, walking the beaches, boating, but we also enjoy the Sanibel residents–love the library, Jerry’s and Baileys, Doc Fords, Cinnamon Rolls at Amy’s Over Easy (Yea Mizzou!), Farmers’ Market on Sundays, Sr. Center Bazaar in the fall, when we usually come, Shellart classes at Community House, on and on! What great folks in a wonderful community. Wondering where we can purchase hat and shirts when in Sanibel?? Thanks, Pam, for sharing your home with us!

Thank you by the way for posting my pic and my shell finds on your site last month. I met you at Blind Pass under the bridge at the shell pile and again at Lighthouse Beach the following night. Mitch is retiring from the college next December so hopefully that means we can spend more time at my favorite place in the world!!! It’s 97 here in Penna. Who knows we may have to come to Sanibel in the summer too to cool off. Sue Bunkin

Thank you for your love of the beach and sea shelling…a faithful follower….

  136. Jean Holycross says:

Having seen and even tried on the Night Shelling Lighted Cap, I can tell everyone what a great cap this is. Great for hunting for those tiny, bright white wentletraps at Lighthouse Beach!!!!! ;-) You should take a pic of that handsome, shell whisperer Clark modeling the hat and post it.

  141. Cori says:

We had a surprise party for my parents 60th anniversary at Tween Waters Inn in March of this year and my niece was telling me the names of all the shells. When I asked how she knew so much she told me about your blog and I have gotten hooked!! She probably spent as much time looking at the people hoping to run into you as she did looking for shells!

My first visit to Sanibel was in 1978 when I was, well, um much younger than I am now and it has always been my favorite vacation destination. We spent one week every November at Sanible Beach Club I. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to live there year round and now I can do it vicariously through you!

Thank You for such an informative and entertaining blog!

    Cori

  142. Joyce Reed says:

Pam, I love your website. I check it each morning before work..Martha and I were on your blog one foggy morning in Feb. and met you at blind pass. It”s really a great site… I would like you to meet Lois (our mentor) who has been shelling for 25 years. She would really love to meet you.. We were inspired by the young girl who found the junonia at 4:00 am..Now 6 of us are renting a cottage at blind pass at the end of Feb. so we can roll out of bed early and shell. We’re hooked on shelling!!! Just look for our I Love Shelling Shirts and lighted hats!! I just hate it when you have to get housework done…It really ruins my day..We need our daily Sanibel Fix!! Really interesting and imformative.

  148. Cathy B says:

What wonderful gifts! I look forward to reading your new posts whenever you send one out. Love the new cap with the night lighting! We are planning another short trip in November. I have so enjoyed your happy shelling site and feel that we are kindred spirits. Thanks for all the joy you have brought to me – even if I can’t be there in person, I can vicariously share shelling at Sanibel Island with you and your friends. Happy shelling!

  155. Marilyn C says:

I’m a recent subscriber to your blog and thoroughly enjoy it. I live in a land-locked state but vacation to the beach once a year. I have been to Sanibel, hope to visit Captiva sometime. I collect sea shells and love hearing about others experiences in the treasure hunt. I didn’t notice the shop opportunity, I will check it out. Thanks for offering the chance to win one of the awesome prizes!

  156. Robyn Messner says:

My husband and I are living in a condo on the Atlantic Treasure Coast since he landed a job down here in FL. Every night after dark we take walks looking for loggerheads and leatherbacks, and often see both. We don’t use flashlights (respectin’ those sea turtles!) and eventually our eyes acclimate to seeing tracks and turtles in the dark. However, that’s not ideal. But, now, what a wonderful idea to have wildlife-friendly filters over the beams of your wonderful I Love Shelling cap! Excellent idea! Bravo, my shelling friend, Bravo! We love Sanibel and hope to move there before too long. We get over there every chance we have. Would enjoy meeting you and chatting with you someday.

  157. Amy Pickrel says:

My husband loves receiving your email blog updates. We live in Illinois, and have a family condo on the island. We try for at least once a year to make it down there and shelling is always on the top of our list!

  158. Pam! I love that you have 160 comments on this post so far..awesome job! Thank you for being the shelling expert, and sharing your (and Clark’s) knowledge and fun with us. I’ll catch you at the post office:)

  159. I look forward to your posts each day. Kind of shy so I have never left a comment. All of the prizes are great! Hope I am a lucky winner. I was in Sanibel for two weeks 5/21 through 6/04. I thought it would be so cool if you came up to me on the beach. Love your posts!!

  160. Cindy from MN says:

Pam — I have followed your site since my sister and I met you in February, 2009. I’ve only been there twice (so far), but relive the wonderful experiences every time I read your blog. It is wonderful fun, fun, fun — and also educational, interesting, and often heartwarming! Thanks for sharing your experiences with me and the world!!!

  161. Robin says:

I have loved shelling since I was about 5. That’s almost 50 years. Grew up on the Jersey Shore, (no! I am nothing like those horrible people on that show!) and then moved to Jacksonville, Fl 30 years ago. I have gathered quite a lovely collection! But nowhere have I found more beautiful shells then on Sanibel. My girlfriends and I have an annual getaway to Pointe de Santo, but since discovering your blog, once a year is not enough! We’ll be down in about 2 weeks, and then back for our annual trip in Oct. We’ll have our “ILS” tee shirts on and we’ll be looking for your smiling face…….unless, of course, you are doing the Sanibel Stoop!

  162. Rowena Zylali says:

WOW!! That is a lot of posts! Count me in – the last time we went shelling on Sanibel at night, I was terrified even WITH the headlamps!! Now that I’ve seen the Bobcat…I don’t know!!!

  163. Tana says:

ooohhhh…ooohhhh!!! PICK ME PICK ME!!!!!! :-p

  164. Melody Erb Greenville SC says:

  165. Chris says:

Awesome, can’t wait to get back next year!

  166. Savannah says:

Wow, this hat is such a great idea! It would definitely come in handy for more than one reason. Also, how wonderful that they are perfect for watching out for sea turtle nests!

  167. Susan Fuller says:

When I was in Sanibel last, they were having the shell show. I think I asked everyone at the show if they knew you and if they were selling your shirts, hats and bags. No one had any information, so I didn’t get my shirt. I really really need one. I am a shell freak in North Myrtle Beach too!

  168. Gerry Shuck says:

I enjoy learning about shells but also about the island. I love shelling at Sanibel.

  169. Debbie says:

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for all your knowledge and tips on shelling. We use you a lot at Waterside Inn…..telling people to check out your blog for information on shelling. Everyone always comes back and rants and raves about all the great help you’ve given them through your site. Keep up the good work!

PS I think you’re pretty great too!

    Sanibelblondie

  170. Gail in NW Wisconsin says:

Pam, I love your blog. This is the first time I have commented, but it keeps me dreaming of Sanibel every day — I read it faithfully. Shelling has become my passion and I just started shelling last year and again this past January. Thank you for all you do….it helps to get me through until the next time I can “stoop”.
    Totally in Love with Sanibel!

  171. Carol says:

Pam, love you site. Thank you for helping me to identity an unusual seashell. Our neighborhood here is Western PA had a garage sale and I found a lady selling seashells! Please enter me in your drawing. The had is a great ideaa.

  172. Carol says:

What a cool hat! I can see it now. My husband would be stealing that baby from me to hunt sharks teeth at night! That would mean I’d have to buy him his own if I won this hat. Love your other branded items too! And LOVE your website!

  173. Joan says:

Thanks so much for this website. It’s been so helpful to find out where the ‘good’ spots are; although I don’t think there’s a bad spot on Sanibel. :) I’ve been shelling mainly in front of Sundial and have gotten quite a few pretties to add to my collection. I was amazed how different Blind Pass looks this time around.

  174. Melanie says:

Wow, what a contest! You will certainly have a lot to read. lol Love the items and love your website even more. I am in landlocked Pennsylvania. I feel at home near the beach and love collecting shells. I got to have my first adventure to Sanibel the first week in April. Besides collecting some minis for myself, I got blessed with seeing and helping live shells, starfish and YES, Pam, I got to see an octopus too. It was on the same day you saw yours. The one I got to see did not have babies or eggs. At first I wasn’t sure what it was and when I looked closer, I couldn’t believe it! No one was where I was, so I took a couple of pictures and helped him/her back into the water safely. What a memory. I hope to be down again this April.

  175. vicki h. says:

I just got a cap and shirt for my birthday, but I really NEED a lighted cap. I’d be all set whenever……

  176. shay says:

I LOVE your blog-I read it every day. Winning would be great, too.

  177. Mary Kay says:

You are such a great person to run these contests. Your website helped my husband and me on our recent trip 2 weeks ago identify the shells we found. My fave was the alphabet cone that rolled right up to hubby’s feet the day before we left. Second favorite is the teeny tiny wentletrap that’s the size of a grain of rice. Now, what do I do with it so I don’t lose it? Hmmmm. Thanks for all your shell knowledge.

  178. Jane Kizzia says:

You can’t go to Sanibel just once. It draws you back time & time again.

  179. Sharon says:

Absolutely love your website, Pam! I’m dreaming of visiting Sanibel for our 5th wedding anniversary in July of 2013, but I’m not sure if I can make it that long! You took the time to respond to one of my emails and I cannot tell you how touching it was when I know you have so many people who appreciate all that you do. We just returned from North Myrtle Beach and are on our way to Cape Cod in July. Shelling is our very favorite thing to do! Can’t wait to add Sanibel shells to our collection. I’m going to need a 4th curio to put them all in! Kindest of regards…Sharon

  180. Diane Rupnow says:

Pam, your website is a great resource for all beach loving shellers. You have helped this Nebraska girl identify the many shells I’ve collected on SW Florida beaches. I’ve been to Sanibel 5–6 times, but never at a great shelling time. When I read your blog I get psyched to give Sanibel one more try. Your photos are excellent and the videos allow everyone to view the awesome nature you see at the beach every day. Thanks for sharing!

  181. Cindy Porter says:

Pam, I have wanted one of each of those since the first time I saw them. I can’t wait to try out the hat! Of course, I don’t suppose it will help me find many shells here in Nebraska but who knows, maybe it will bring me luck! Maybe I’ll find myself on Sanibel soon. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

  182. Renee' says:

I have shelled at Sanibel for about 18 years. There’s no place like Sanibel. I’ve shelled all over the world and I still come back to my favorite spots on Sanibel. It is always like stepping back in time.

  183. Crystal says:

That hat looks incredibly handy! I need to look into getting one even if I don’t get lucky in this giveaway!

  184. Karla says:

What every sheller can identify with:
    a. my thighs are killing me!
    b. yes my nails look like this because I have been digging in the sand..Got to get that SHELL!
    c. butt in the air
    d. hat on head and sun glasses on
    e. and yes that is me, at the lighthouse at 4:30 in the morning..bucket and scoop in hand..
..ya got a problem with that???

  185. kathy screws says:

Sanibel will always be in my heart! I have gone shelling on Sanibel for 29 yrs! I just love the island so much!! It is my little piece of Heaven here on earth!!

  186. Janie Dearien says:

I’ve been a fan of yours for quite some time and hopefully get to meet you on one of my excursions down your way, since I’m only about 90 minutes away! This hat you two have designed is brilliant! I’ll have to let my daughter know of this as she will be delighted since she ‘used’ to work for the Loggerhead MarineLife Center, Juno Beach and the Barrier Island Center, Melbourne Beach. She is now living in San Antonio and really misses the beach and especially working with sea turtles.

  195. Jeffrey C Bailey says:

1st time leaving a comment. Great response. You should be proud of your site. Thank you for the images and the content.

Finding your website gave me lots of info when we were there in Nov. and I had a great time! Now, to get back sometime. It was difficult to shell hunt AND keep hold of the flashlight in the dark, so this will be such a help! Of course, I’d really like any of the prizes!

  200. Marcia Gjundjek says:

  201. Caryl Renz says:

I’ve lived on Sand Key for 40 yrs and we used to have shells like you have in Sanibel. However, no longer. We didn’t even have the casings come up this year. I enjoy seeing all of your photos and hearing about all of your escapades. Thanks for all of your hard and time consuming work.

  202. Denise says:

Yes, my favourite place to visit when I turn on my computer! Visited Sanibel for the first time last year with my daughter, and now planning on returning this year and bringing the rest of my family. My daughter, Emma, 11, found a piece of a junonia (and luckily met you at the same time!), and says that a trip to Sanibel is better than an all inclusive vacation anyday!

  217. Greeting from The Jersey Shore!

Sanibel looks to be one of the best places in the world! Having never been I am excited and anxious to visit. Hoping to plan a holiday trip this year. Your postings and passion for shelling and the beach are inspiring to someone who isn’t familiar with the area. Thank you and keep on posting!

  218. Alicia says:

We feel in love with Sanibel last year when we came for our 10th anniversary. I was up early to walk with the sunrise and got back to the room and was looking info on all these awesome shells I was finding, I cam e across your website. It makes me feel like i’m right there when you post your blogs.

Thank for you such a wonderful shelling blog!

  219. Patty Porter says:

My husband and I came to Sanibel last November for our first shelling trip and it was an awesome experience. I shell constantly in NJ, but nothing compares to the Sanishells. I am so excited to return! Everytime you show an awesome find on your blog, I show it to my husband as a lure for planning our next trip. Thanks so much for giving me this little window into Sanibel shelling.

  220. Love this site! Can’t wait to get my toes in the Sanibel sand again! My shell collection continues to grow – my co-workers think I bought them they are so pretty! Thank you

  221. MARY JO says:

    Hey Pam!
Sanibel~Captiva is such a special place to my Family! Living in Illinois, the daily blogs are my happy place each and every time you post!
I not only love shelling, it is my passion!! :)
The new hat and tank top are fantastic! Hoping to get one of each for myself soon!

    Hi Pam,
Please enter me. I would love some shelling gear!

  223. Kristen says:

I just wanted to say good luck to everyone entering! If you have not been to the area you have got to plan a trip! We just love it down there and our last trip was the best yet! Wednesday night of our trip we got to go shelling with Pam and Clark and it was the best night of our trip! They are truly wonderful people and we had fabulous shelling that evening! We are so excited to be moving to Florida, it’s hard getting everything together and making a smooth transition, but we’re doing it… no matter how many months it takes!!!

  224. Nancy McLean says:

My sister and I were hoping to run into you during my May visit with her. We both love your blog and all the shelling tips you give. You really have captured the essence of Sanibel with all your photos and videos of the shells and wildlife there! Keep up the good work! Hopefully we will meet up with you next time!

  225. Sally says:

Just returned from Turk and Caicos Islands. Lots of very old and worn conch shells but otherwise slim pickings. Beaches and water were beautiful though and snorkeling was great.

  226. Dodie says:

“OH! HOW FUN IT WOULD BE FOR ME
TO WIN THE LIGHT UP SHELLING CAP…..YOU SEE

I COULD SHELL AT NIGHT OR IN THE EARLY MORN
YOU CAN REST ASSURED .. IT WOULD BE WELL- WORN!!!”

  227. Nolan says:

My comment is more of a suggestion. Having just purchased the hat and turtle filter (great idea!) I wasn’t sure if I needed to purchase 1 turtle filter or two because the hat has two lamps. If it needs two filters it might be better to sell them as a set.
Its a small mental vacation for my wife and I every time we visit i Love Shelling.
    Thanks!

    • pam says:

Nolan- because the light under the bill doesn’t shine out or forward, the SCCF says that it would be fine to have that light on at night on the beach during sea turtle nesting season. If you were to see a sea turtle, we still Ask you to turn that light off and only use the filtered light Ii would still suggest turning all lights off if a turtle is spotted. The light that shines forward is the one that needs the filter. The filter is a sticker and I have gotten at least two uses out of it. Meaning, I’ve put the sticker on the bill light then taken it off and put it back on another night. But the adhesive does wear off so they are disposable. If you need more filters, you can always contact me and I can get them to you on the islands.

      • Nolan says:

Ahhhh now I understand. Thank you very much for the additional info. We are making a trip to Sanibel in two weeks and we are excited to use the hat. Its a short trip so we don’t plan on letting a little bit of dark stop us from finding shells. :)

  228. Debbie says:

    Hi Pam,
Just got the t’s I ordered from you. And thanks for meeting me when we were down over the winter to get a t and scoop. That scoop is the best. I visit your site everyday to see what’s up at the beach. I can’ wait for November to come back again. Hope to find an other scotch bonnet, maybe in better shape this time. Would love to be entered in your giveaway. Thank you for all you do!

  229. Ginger says:

    Hi Pam,
Ginger here, and if I don’t win anything I am going to buy them all! Love them. The girls here in Minnesota are planning a winter trip to Sanibel. I can’t wait to show them the fun of shelling!

Thanks for a fun website. Can’t wait to head to Sanibel next chance we get.

  231. cwandkd says:

I grew up in Florida shelling and now live in the land-locked Midwest. I swear to Rudy I was mentioning your blog just at lunch today. It has kept me sane many a day…..Visiting every day is so therapeutic because the colors of the sky and sea and the “finds” are always changing just like living at the beach. God Bless and thank you for sharing your passion….it is probably touching more lives than you will ever know. -Connor ( one of the few girl Connor’s on the planet :) )

  232. Kim Boyd says:

I tell all my friends about your wonderful blog. I love it! I love sanibel Island for I have been there 3 times in less than 11 months. Your blog is very well put together with your awesome photos. I have to add how educational it is also. Thank- you for sharing a bit a paradise while you are there on island time.

  233. Linda Huber says:

I love the daily messages from your blog. Your photos take me back to FL instantly and that is a great feeling when I spend most of my year landlocked in the midwest.

  234. Susan says:

Pam. I cannot start my day without reading your fabulous blog!! First, I read the latest post and then I click on the link to The Island Inn webcam. I just love seeing that beautiful beach and feeling like I am there, before the craziness of the day begins!! Will be there next month!! Can’t wait!!

  235. Andrea says:

I love your website. I share it all the time whenever I meet people and we start talking about shells. Thanks so much for keeping it up for us.

  236. Pam Teague says:

    Pam,
I love this website. I live on Wrightsville Beach in NC. but the shelling here is no where near as great as on Sanibel. My husband and I visit Sanibel and we both love it. He loves the bars and I love the beach. This is my way to stay in touch with one of the nicest places I have ever been. THanks!
    Pam Teague

Spent my 30th wedding anniversary in Sanibel last week. Lots of great shelling. Wouldn’t have even thought of going shelling if it wasn’t for your site. Thank you, Mike

  243. linda retzlaff says:

I love your website and check it every day. It will have to keep me going until I can return to Sanibel. I love all the pictures and videos. Keep up the good job you are doing!!

  244. Lori from Spokane, WA says:

Hi Pam – you might remember my 2 friends (Jeri and Candy) and me – met you during the frst week of May when my friends planted a definitely non-native shell for me to find. What a wonderful week we had – and meeting you was such a special highlight! None of us can get Sanibel out of our minds – actually didn’t unpack for several days after we arrived back home. I know I’ll be back as soon as possible, and would love to see you again.

Thank you so very much for keeping this blog..which became my favorite website a few months before I was actually there. This is such a gift for so many of us “shellin’ sistas” and the guys, too.

    The very best to you-
    Peace out-
    Lori Crouch

  245. EL says:

Your blog brings me joy – it’s almost like going to Sanibel whenever I want – the beach, the sky, the water, and the shells in your wonderful photos. The only drawback – it drives me crazy because I can’t actually be there!

  246. I love “I love Shelling”! Thank you for this wonderful source for the beaches and sea life of The Great Gulf of Mexico. Love, love, love it! I feel so blessed to live here! I can’t wait to be able to identify the shells I find, I’ll savor the journey along the way. Very Cool! I would love to win anything!!! LOL…

    Keep on Shelling!!
    Jeanie Bethuy

  247. Diane Shirley says:

I’m so glad I found your website. I would love to be on Sanibel every day, but reading your blog gives me a nice fix! If I can’t be there finding all those great shells, at least I can read about the people who are.

  248. Maria DeLellis says:

The first thing my husband does after getting his morning coffee is read your blog… I usually have to catch up on the weekends. Most vacations we gain weight but on Sanibel we usually miss a meal or two a day because we can’t stay off the beach! Last week was no exception, especially after we went to Blind Pass – like kids in a candy shop!!

Thank you for iloveshelling – it keeps us going until our next visit…

    Happy Summer!

  249. D Ann says:

Have enjoyed many fine days on Sanibel and Captiva; looking forward to moving to Cape Coral and having lots of free time to venture over.
Your website is great and I look forward to watching it over time.
Thanks for the info both educational and humorous–you make my day!

    D Ann says:
Near the sea we forget to count the days…

  250. Deana Sroka says:

I love coming to your website every day to see all the fantastic shells!! My family and I visit Sanibel every year and we are coming down the end of August for my 40th birthday!! Last time I was there on my birthday I found a beautiful perfectly intact Junonia and got my picture in the paper!! I hope to run into you on the beach someday!!

  251. Anne Marie says:

Pam, you are like a “Shellebrity” to me and my sister, Susan (see June 10th comment)! We are shell-obsessed…my 2 daughters and her 1 daughter think we’re nuts, but we just love to shell. Checking out your blog gets us through til we get back to Sanibel each time! Hope to meet you when we’re there again in July! -Anne Marie

  252. Beth says:

    Comment! :)
Thanks for all of the virtual shelling opportunities for those of us in the northern states!!!

  253. Linda Grapentin says:

I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit Sanibel one week per year for the past 30+ yrs. My last visit was in April 2011. I discovered your website about 6 months before that last visit. I never realized that Pavlov’s theory also applies to Web sites! I found that my heart would start to race when looking at the pictures of all the beautiful shells that you had posted. I also seemed to walk kind of funny for awhile after viewing the site – kind of all hunched over, stooping down, eyes darting left, right, gazing at the floor…searching, searching….

Seriously though. Your blog makes the wait to return to Sanibel a little more bearable. On my last visit, I was not only searching for shells but searching for you. I went to Blind Pass, Lighthouse Beach and Gulfside Park numerous times but no luck in spotting you. You seemed to be somewhat as elusive as the Junonia has been to me. I had wanted to thank you in person for all of the time and energy that you spend sharing your experiences and enjoyment with all of us. I hope that it is a labor of love for you to do this and that it continues to be so. I’m not sure if you truly realize how much you are appreciated. Maybe next time I’ll spot you on the beach. Thank you. Happy Shelling!

  254. Melody Wells says:

I love Sanibel and I love your blog. I don’t know when my daughter and I will be coming but we will be coming back to Sanibel. I like feeling connected to what is going on when I am not there. I check in every day, sometimes several times a day looking forward to your next post. I have told some of my friends with children about your site. I think they would enjoy some of the video clips you have posted. Several years ago we were treated to “shell piles” at blind pass Captiva side. I am hoping to have that opportunity again. Thanks!

  255. Karen says:

I love reading your blog and especially love all the pictures. I’ll be bringing my family (including my 6 and 8 y.o. kids) to Sanibel for the first time starting next Saturday the 25th. I haven’t been there since I was a kid myself. I’ve been showing my kids pictures from your blog for the past few weeks to get them excited. They seem to have a ball looking for rocks on the beach in Lake Michigan, so I’m hoping that they’ll fall in love with shelling on Sanibel! :)

  256. Krista says:

Oh my gosh, this is my 4th year down here to FT.MYERS. I found your site and I love it, it has given me a lot of info I didnt know. I have turned into a sheller. I love doing it and finding just the right shell.
Looking through your website makes me a bit jealous. When I go back to Illinois, I dont know if I will be able to read your site, I will be drooling at the mouth for shells.
Love your site, thanks for keeping us informed.

  257. Ruth says:

I Love I Love Shelling!!! Was on Sanibel/Captiva yesterday (6/12) and had another great time snorkeling/shelling! Currents were pretty strong at both Lighthouse Bch. and Blind Pass-almost got swept under the bridge! At low tide though, found a fair amount of fighting conchs, turbans and a couple of small olives followed by another picture perfect sunset on Captiva behind Mucky Duck’s. (-:

  258. Martha Camp says:

Love your blog. Plan on being in your area in Oct. Hope to see you on the beach. Never new there was so many beautiful shells. Keep the pictures coming.

  259. Marie says:

We camp at Periwinkle Park every January. We bring our Bicycles and ride to the beach and fill up the little basket I have on the front of my bike. There are boxes full of Shells in my craft room, and I am always thinking of ways to use them. I have a picture on my web site of Christmas tree decorations I made with some. Sanibel is our favorite place to visit in Florida!

  260. Amy Collins says:

    I <3 your site. I <3 Sanibel/Captiva. I <3 shelling. I <3 your new goodies in your store. :)

  261. Martha Ann says:

I Love Shelling! We have only been going to Sanibel for the last 4 years but our stays get longer each year and our shell collection grows exponentially! My husband says if he bends down to pick it up, he’s keeping it! No junonia or alphabet cone yet but we will keep trying – hurry up January!

  262. Pamela Pazdra says:

We recently visited Sanibel from Broward County. Sanibel is such a slower pace of life and it was a real treat. Your blog site was a great help in planning our trip. Now I visit it to remember our fond weekend. We can’t wait to get back to the island.

  263. Janet Parmenter says:

Pam, I just received my order of shirts and my lighted hat! They are GREAT!! If I would be so lucky to win something it would go to Lois our mentor who showed our group so much on how to shell. With our scoops, aprons, etc. She gives so much of her time to helping other people thru sewing for Hospice and she gives most of her shells away to children .She labels them , puts them in baggies for show and tell at school..She also gives talks on shells(while wearing her ” I Love Shelling” shirt) to different groups.. See you at Sanibel!!!

  264. Linda Miller says:

Absolutely LOVE your blog! Thank you for your dedication to keeping all of us up to date on the shelling on our favorite islands!

  274. Julie Svinicki says:

I have made more than 20 visits to various parts of Florida and lived in Boca Raton for 16 months. Have shelled in North Carolina, California, Mexico, Eastern Florida and the Keys. But have never been or seen anything like Sanibel Island!
We visited for the first time this last April, thank goodness I found your website before we came, so I knew right where to go for the best shelling!
My kids in college where so jealous when they saw the suitcase full of shells we brought home! They couldn’t believe the size and variety and none of them were broken!
I go to your website everyday to see your (and clarks) “finds”. It makes me smile and reminds me what a peaceful and relaxing time we had at Sanibel.
    We can’t wait to return!
    Thank You!

  275. Crystal says:

I love Sanibel and go whenever I can, which is never often enough. I think the shells there are better than if they were coins!

  276. katfish says:

This blog was extremely helpful in helping me understand what I would be looking for on Sanibel. I still have not cleaned all the shells I got in March.

    We’ll be back!

  277. JoanS says:

What wonderful giveaways! I read your blog fairly regularly – and am just pea-green jealous that you can live in such a wonderful place – and I’ve only been there twice!! I really do enjoy looking at the photos, too.

  278. Sara says:

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with your website… sometimes I love seeing what I’m missing on Sanibel, and sometimes I HATE seeing what I’m missing on Sanibel!

Oh, who am I kidding… I just love it! :-)

  279. Stacy says:

I love your website….it makes me long for not only shelling but Sanibel!

  280. Angela Pryor says:

How thrilled I was when I found your website! Shelling has been a great passion of mine since my parents first took our family to the Florida Keys in 1968. A year or so later they took me for my first visit to Sannibel, and I’ve loved it ever since. I definitely don’t make it there often enough, but there is nothing more serene, peaceful, and exhilarating than finding that special treasure on the beaches of Sannibel and Captiva islands.

  281. Patsy says:

Love your website, Sanibel and would love to have the wonderful tote! Thanks for such a great site.
